"GOOD PRENATAL CARE, TERRIBLE BIRTH EXPERIENCE"

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

I enjoyed all my prenatal appointments thorougly and was looking forward to giving birth at St. Tommy's. However, after my water broke early, I was told to return the following night at 10pm for induction. Came back then, was left in an uncomfortable bed in the MAU and told a room would be ready for me shortly. Four, long painful hours passed - all while separated from my husband. Simply too busy of a hospital and completely understaffed. I was told that "women were giving birth in the hallway" due to staff shortages so I shouldn't feel unlucky. It was very jarring after months of advice from midwives around staying calm and relaxed during birth. I would recommend going to another hospital, it seems they are oversubscribed and the worst part is they wouldn't discharge me when they said they would either due to more staff shortages (no one to do my baby's release review). Maybe if the release process is better than you'd have more beds available?
