"My experience with ADHD services"

About: Clackmannanshire Community Healthcare Centre / Mental health resource centre

(as a service user),

In 2018, I made a gp appointment to be assessed for ADHD after thinking I may have it for a while. I decided to do this as I was at university and having a diagnosis could give me extra support at uni. I had my first appointment at the start of 2019 and was told then that I most likely do have ADHD and someone would be in touch to make a second appointment with my mum.

2 years later, in February 2021 after calling multiple times to ask when my appointment would be, I was told I was lost in the system. They apologised and set up an appointment with the covering psychiatrist for 2 weeks later. When I had this appointment I was told that they couldn't do anything as they had none of my original notes and I would have to wait for the person who had seen me previously to be available. I then put a complaint in as I felt I was not getting the care I deserved.

On the back of this, I was given another appointment with the covering psychiatrist where I was given the diagnosis then had a follow up to start meds. The person I originally saw was coming back a week later so was told that my follow up from starting the meds would happen with them.

We are now 20 weeks down the line and still have not had a phonecall or appointment to even ask how I am getting on with these controlled meds. I have called no less than 5 times within this time. The first few times, (about 5/6 weeks after starting meds) I was told there was  a lot to catch up on, and that I'd get an appointment in due course.  I called again last week and was told that a staff member is leaving and they have no replacement yet so cannot make me an appointment or tell me when I will get one.

I feel this is totally unacceptable. Especially since I started a controlled drug with no support or follow up in the slightest and no one seems to be able to help me.

Dear Ricochet_95

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch to leave feedback. It is critical about your experience. It is vitally important to hear the voices of those who access the service and to identifying areas that we can improve upon.

I really am sorry to hear of your experience, this is not what we want for our patients, it must be very frustrating and upsetting for you.

I would really like to look into what has happened, and see what I can do to ensure you are able to access support. For me to do this I will need some information. Can I please ask you contact Pauline Donnelly, Person Centred Patient Experience Coordinator, you can contact her on 01342 566523 or you can drop her an email at pauline.donnelly@nhs.scot

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards
