The staff were very attentive however I considered some of their conversations to an elderly lady with dementia inexperienced and disrespectful. They kept telling her not be to be rude, and after delivering some personal care laughed about how stressful it had been. The whole bay could hear this conversation and it was embarrassing as it took place right by her bed. They later removed her call bell and told her the toilet was being used rather than attend to her. Appreciate she was rather demanding but I found the way she was spoken to uncomfortable and lacking in understanding of the dementia process. I was not a patient in the ward but happened to overhear this conversation whilst visiting mid afternoon on the 12th.
Also - the visiting policy of one hour per patient needs to be reviewed as if able to probably relatives might have been able to sit with that lady and help her feel safe. My relative was very anxious about the admission and the condition admitted with affected by this. Dynamic risk assessments should take place on individual circumstances and a visiting policy not blanket applied to all.
