About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

(as a service user),

I have a planned biopsy at the Beatson but I have to go the day before in the early afternoon for a procedure the next day. I tried to arrange that I come on the day as it seems unnecessary and I value my limited time. It seems that if you aren’t in a bed, staff will give it to someone else and I wouldn’t receive my procedure. Isn’t this a waste of resources? As a patient with a life limiting illness, it’s such a waste for me to sit around all day in a bed and probably not sleep much the night before.

Thanks for looking into this. Having has a response from the clinical services manager, it would seem that not having an day patient set up is the main reason for saving a bed for 2 nights. There seems to be an idea from staff that if a bed is not booked it will be given away. I had an arrival time of 3pm and didn’t leave till hours after a procedure at 7pm the next day. Surely their much be a more efficient use of this process? It was a waste of my valued time and a waste of nhs resources.
