I was referred to the dermatology department by my GP following discovery of a suspected skin cancer on my back. I had an appointment within one week of referral.
The staff are brilliant, from receptionist to Consultant, it is a very welcoming team who seem to understand how patients feel.
I saw the clinical nurse specialist on my first appointment. The diagnosis was confirmed and I was given 2 appointments for Photo Dynamic Therapy, a highly successful treatment for skin cancer. Although the treatment can be painful, the staff are there to explain exactly what will happen and how the treatment works.
The patient information is very useful and informed me of exactly what would happen during the healing process and how I could help ease the discomfort.
I have just been for my second treatment, which was fine, again the staff were fantastic. I had a call following the treatment from the clinical nurse specialist advising me of the date for my follow up appointment with the consultant and making sure I was OK.
I work in the NHS and am only too aware of stories of poor attitude and practice, however mine and my families experiences with both Stafford and Cannock hospital have been very good. It is right to raise issues when poor service is received, however more patients should compliment good service also.
