"Re-referral for hip replacement"

I had a Birmingham Hip resurfacing procedure undertaken at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital I Glasgow approximately 6 years ago .  Following the procedure the hip never felt right, and certainly my pain levels were no better.  In fact, following the surgery I had functional deficits I didn't have before the operation. My pain not only became constant, it became much more intense with certain movements, my ability to walk any distance or climb stairs, gone.  The consultant who carried out this procedure I found to be cold and clinical and not interested in finding the source of the issue, rather they suggested it was all in my head on many occasions, or told me that the pain I was feeling was impossible, where follow up appointments would consist of them stating that upon review of the x-ray, they thought the implant was in the correct alignment, so there was nothing more they to do. 

I have been in nausea inducing pain since my operation on a daily basis.   I have to physically pick up my leg with my hands to get out of a car, I cannot pivot on my hip under load, nor can I crouch or bend at the hip more than about 60 degrees under load. My hip clicks and shifts multiple times a day resulting in, breathtakingly high intenstity pain (often nausea) that can be brought on by stepping up a curb or even in a straight line. 

I was placated, told I was wrong, or that that issue was in my head for 5 year, not that the original surgery could have potentially be causing this.  I was prescribed a never-ending cocktail of medication to try to mask the physical issue with the original surgery, be it with antidepressants, anti nauseants or sleeping pills. 

Ultimately with the help of a pain consultant I had them state on record, they felt I had deficits and that their opinion was there was still an issue with the hip joint itself.   Off the back of this I managed to get referred to a second orthopaedic  surgeon who actually investigated the issue by way of bone scan, checking for infection etc.

I just wanted to go online to share my story to highlight how poor my experience was and if I can save just one other person from agreeing to have surgery undertaken, then it will be worth it.  I have little hope the NHS will either investigate my case or admit any wrongdoing.   I aim here to prevent anyone from having to live through the ~6yrs of hell I have had to thus far.   I am currently on the waiting list for hip revision surgery so my hell isn't over.......yet.
