"The staff saved my life"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Stroke Unit

(as a service user),

The staff here are excellent. Their quick action and diagnosis have saved my life. I am so lucky to be here. The nurses on the stroke ward are fantastic; they are very thoughtful, and they can see what you need before you do. The nurses also will take the time to look after you, whether it be curling your hair or helping me to the shower- this was such a lovely surprise. However, some nurses could improve on their communication skills and bedside manner. I also think that having more staff on the ward would be helpful as there are instances where you are waiting long periods of time to get attention. I miss my family, especially my grandchildren, as visiting times and days are restricted. But overall I am happy with my level of care.
