"Occupational Therapy at SCBIRT"

About: Long term neurological conditions and allied services / Sheffield Community Brain Injury rehabilitation team (SCBIRT)

(as a service user),

I was able to be re-referred to Sheffield Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team for 3 focussed OT sessions in order to help me with planning my preparations for my PhD viva, which took place last month. These sessions involved me and my OT discussing the brain injury difficulties I experience (mostly memory and time organisation related) and coming up with strategies that would help me feel prepared for - and more confident about - answering questions about my research during the verbal examination of my thesis.

We also discussed options in terms of breaks to help with fatigue management and how to use the virtual viva environment to my best advantage with notes and reminders around my desk. In the last session my OT also asked me a series of mock viva questions and fed back about my answers and staying on track, which was very helpful as a way to round up the sessions.
