"Appalling treatment of my mum"

About: University Hospital Monklands / General Medicine (Wards 2,10,12 and 17)

(as a relative),

Absolutely appalling service on Ward 12. While my elderly mum was in there being treated for Covid she had money go missing from her purse, the staff didn't seem to care and suggested she must have lost it. Mum was too ill to move and so I feel there was no way she could have lost it. Mum suffers badly with anxiety, but they moved her to a room on her own where the buzzer didn’t work, she asked the staff what she would do if she had a fall or needed them to which they replied she was to bang on the bed with her stick if she needed help.

She never received a hot meal while in this room, and staff said they kept forgetting she was there!

On another occasion, she was informed that she was going home that day and to get dressed and wait for patient transport to collect her. She sat there waiting until 9pm at night before being informed that the patient transport actually closed at 6pm and she was sent back to her room.

The amount of stress they put my unwell mum under is appalling. I think the anxiety it caused my mum almost finished her.

I spoke with the Patient Liaison team about the missing money and was again told it had just probably been lost by mum herself. I have reported this to the police and have a police number.

I intend to report this as far and wide as possible to let other people know just what a terrible time my mum had and hopefully to receive an explanation and apology.

Totally disgusted.

Dear tigerpk87,

Thank you for taking time to leave feedback on the Care Opinion platform. Firstly let me apologise sincerely for the experience of what you describe in your post for the care and treatment that your mother received whilst in Ward 12. I am shocked and saddened to read this and equally share your significant concern.

In order to let me fully investigate the circumstances and equally to have the opportunity to speak with you and understand the facts, can you please call our patient affairs department and raise your concerns formally to which I will then make contact directly with you on my return from leave. The patient affairs department can be contacted by calling 01236 748 748.

Very best wishes,

Gav
