"Don’t bother! "

About: Cromer Hospital

Thought I was going to be the only one to have been refused treatment here, but glad I read the other reviews.

After travelling 50 mins in agony, with a small child and Grandmother in the car, I was sent here by the GP Surgery, having to use crutches and was told not to put any weight on my foot - I was greeted by a rude Nurse who clearly thought I was another holiday maker pushing my luck and didn’t even offer a chair for me to sit on while explaining what had happened. When I asked for one, it was like I’d asked for a chez lounge and a cocktail. She hadn’t even asked my name or date of birth at this point. When I told her what had happened (after previously being given said crutches from another hospital for the injury a week ago) she looked at me as though I was stupid, and said ‘we’ll I don’t know why they’ve given you crutches for simple sprain?!’ It’s a Grade 2 Sprain, that I have taken regular strong painkillers for a week for. Refused to even look my foot. Refused to do a follow up X-Ray that the surgery had requested, and when I explained that I suffer with bad anxiety, depression and have suffered with PTSD in the past, she yelled that she didn’t care! To make matters worse, another nurse appeared and just as I started to have a panic attack - yelled ‘YOU CAN PACK THAT IN!’ Which only escalated my panic, leading me to throw my crutches on the floor in front of me. Loosing control of my breathing, and being asked to leave the department! To which I refused, as one, try using crutches while not being able to put any weight on one foot normally, let alone while having a panic attack, and two I felt incredibly intimidated and let down, considering I’d been sent there by a medical professional in the first place!

After some failed attempts, I managed to pull myself together enough to phone the surgery and was still on the phone to them when a policeman arrived to escort me out of the department! He was the first person to ask me my details and actually gave me me fantastic ankle injury advice in the car park! I have a huge respect for the NHS. But I am a 35 year old, married mother with my own business, who suffered a painful injury while working hard, and was made to feel like a drunken teenager who’d twisted her ankle on a night out. There was no empathy, no trying to reassure or calm me, in my clear distress, just being made to feel like I was a something they’d stood in.

Totally and utterly appalled!
