"My experience in this ward"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Craigavon Area Hospital / Trauma Ward Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I fell due to very low blood pressure and injured my hip.  My wife called the ambulance but unfortunately they took 5 hours to arrive.  This was a downside as I couldn't get up as I was in so much pain but I understand that paramedics are very busy.  When the paramedics came they were good.

My experience in this ward has been excellent.  Everything I have to say is positive.  All of the staff know what they are doing.  If they need to move me, they give me medication an hour before to make the move less painful.  This is very kind of them.  It is good to have a buzzer and when I use it, the nurses come to help straight away.  I am being kept well informed and I met my surgeon and physiotherapist today.  It was nice to meet them face to face before my hip operation taking place tomorrow.  The cleaners are in everyday and it is nice being in a side room especially during the COVID pandemic.  It makes me feel safe.

Dear Chafs65

Thank you for taking time out of your recovery period to give us feedback on your experience.

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologise for the long delay on ambulance assistance. We are working tirelessly to address the many issues causing our delayed responses. We understand how difficult and frustrating it is for a patient and their family when the appropriate help is not readily available.

I am happy to hear the crew who attended the scene were good and hopefully they managed your pain and transportation well.

If you would like me to convey your compliment directly to the staff involved I would require a few extra details from you. If you would be happy to discuss, please contact me on amanda.sweetlove@nias.hscni.net

Good luck for your surgery tomorrow. I hope it is very successful and your recovery swift.

Take care.

Amanda
