"My daughter has lost her place in the queue for a scan"

About: Victoria Hospital / Radiology

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has been referred to the Radiology Department in Kirkcaldy for a CT scan a week ago.

We were told that the urgency of her scan and therefore the waiting time (2-9 weeks) would be determined by the radiology team yesterday, Monday.  She called yesterday afternoon to find out what they had decided (which would then influence whether to go private) to be told by the receptionist that the request for her CT Scan had been rejected and sent back to the consultant haematologist at the Western General in Edinburgh because there wasn't enough information on it.

This behaviour is clearly driven by a target/number driven measurement system and not about doing the right thing for the patient. In an ideal, patient driven, world, that person at the Victoria Hospital would have made a call to the person at the Western to get that information.

Now my daughter has lost her place in the queue and will have to wait even longer for what could be a life changing CT scan.
