"My time at St Marks/Northwick Park/Central Middlesex"

About: Central Middlesex Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I recently underwent Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC at the above under the care of Mr Jenkins (my surgeon was Mr Guerra).  I was extremely nervous before going in as I thought the operation would take 6hours, it in fact took 12!.  I can honestly say that I was so impressed with the treatment and care I received whilst there.  The surgical team visited every day and no matter which team it was (there are quite a few of these special doctors that work so well together) they always knew everything about me and at what stage I was at in my recovery.

My anaesthetist Dr  Pearson was amazing and gave me a brilliant epidural for not only pain relief of my surgery but also to eliminate the severe OA pain in my left knee, this enabled me to get out of bed and walk the day after my operation, I will be forever grateful to  her.

The nursing staff on the ITU and ECU were all amazing so pleasant, professional and caring and what I  really noticed was how the senior members of staff were so kind and caring to the juniors, always making sure that they had a break and thanked them at the end of their shift, this is so important for morale.  I felt completely safe and trusted them all implicitly to take great care of me which they did.  My procedure was very complex and took much longer than I expected but I came out of it really well and even left hospital a week earlier than expected without a single sign of infection.  Thank you all so very much for your great care and expertise.

I hope that this review gets passed on to the surgeons(and their theatre team), anaesthetist and her assistant and the nursing staff in ICU, ECU and Gladstone Ward also to the Head of Nursing and CEO.
I am forever grateful.
P.S a mention please for Dr Burling Radiologist who is an expert when it comes to reporting scans.
Kind regards

Dear Debra121,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience when visiting our Trust. It is so lovely to hear that our staff were able to put you at ease and to make you feel so well cared for during what must have been a very nerve-wracking time.

It is amazing to hear that you were able to leave hospital earlier than anticipated. I have shared your kind sentiments with the team, and will ensure that the specific staff members you have mentioned receive them.

Once again thank you for sharing this, we hope you are recovering well from your surgery.

We are always interested to hear more from our patients about their experiences, and use this as a learning tool for our staff. It is also a way to ensure that the patient voice is heard. If you would be interested in speaking with us, even if it is informally, please can I ask that you contact us at LNWH-tr.PATIENTEXPERIENCE@nhs.net or call us on 020 8869 3638.

Best wishes

Anjali Patel
