"I am diabetic and I don't know how much sugar is in some of the foods"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 1 East Gynaecology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

All of the staff are angels here. The staff don't stop for one minute. They are lovely but I can just tell that they are fighting off tiredness. Their shifts are far too long. They aren't stopping for over 12 hours. They are running up and down the wards constantly. The treatment is at an excellent standard. The ward is clean but the toilets were absolutely horrible and disgusting. One of them was also broken for days. I think the wards also need mirrors. There are no mirrors in the bathrooms or at sinks. It is really difficult to clean your face, brush your teeth or brush your hair with no mirror.

In my opinion there is far too much paper work and so much wastage of paper and PPE. They should really start doing the paper work electronically. It would be much better for the environment.

The food isn't great. The person giving me the plate of food sat it down to me and I asked what it was. they said they  didn't actually know what it was. I think this says it all about the food.

I am diabetic and it is a set menu so it is hard to choose off the menu as I don't know how much sugar is in some of the foods or if it is all convenience foods. I'm used to real food at home. Not out of a plastic container.

Thank you for posting regarding your recent hospital stay.

The Domestic Services Manager and I have visited the ward and inspected the toilet facilities, we identified slight areas of improvement and discussed these with the member of staff.

I have reviewed the menu in which you would have used to order your meals. I note the healthy options were not clearly identified, which I appreciate would make ordering these options more difficult. We have introduced our new inpatient menu, which identifies the healthy options, making informed choices much easier.

Many thanks

Andrew
