"My 20 week scan"

About: Care Opinion Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50)

(as a service user),

Just wanted to feed back that I had a very positive experience at my 20 week scan at the QEUH.

As a result of sharing feedback on the Care Opinion website about some negative aspects of my 12 week scan, I was made aware that I would be able to record a very short mini clip of my baby. I did have to call ahead to make sure this would be the case as they were initially unaware of this option but it is so wonderful to now have this memory of my baby moving in my womb.

I would suggest that this becomes the norm and that mothers are made aware they have this option. I know that the purpose of the scans is for health checks not for receiving pictures and memories, but it does make a massive difference as a patient to feel that the things you care about are important especially on your journey as a first time mother, and to know that your voice is being heard.

I would also like to feed back that the sonographer was brilliant and her positive and kind attitude made a big difference, in a way that never made us feel that we were asking too much which is how I felt at the first scan. Thank you for listening to feedback!

Dear antx

Many thanks for taking the time to provide us with further feedback and I am glad that you had a positive experience during your 20 week scan.

It is also great to hear that the ability to record a small clip of your baby helps create the start of some wonderful memories and I would like to reassure you that we will continue to provide this service for women even when the pandemic is over.

Thanks also for the feedback regarding the sonographer and I will ensure I share your post with her and she will be delighted to receive this.

Wishing you all the best for the remainder of your pregnancy and birth.

Best Wishes

Evelyn Frame

Chief Midwife, NHS GGC
