"We left feeling very positive"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as a relative),

I accompanied my husband as his GP referred him to Urology as his PSA is higher than he would like. We were seen exactly at the appointment time.

After examination the Dr. took great care to explain the pros and cons of what could happen from now on. He gave my husband the choice of 'wait and see' for 4 months and monitor PSA then, or go ahead with MRI and biopsy - explaining the possible downsides of biopsy.

My husband decided to adopt the 'wait and see'.   We left feeling very positive and appreciated being seen within 10 days of referral, by a kind and caring Dr.

Dear joyous angel

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to give us such positive feedback on the service that your husband received at his recent Urology outpatient appointment. Please excuse my delayed response but I am currently on annual leave.

I am sorry that your husband has a raised PSA, but I am pleased that he felt confident in the various ways this can be managed. I am also pleased that you both found the doctor concerned was kind and caring. Your feedback will be shared with the Urology team.

I understand that your husband has chosen "active surveillance" of his PSA and will be seen in another 4 months. However, if he changes his mind during this time, and would like to take up the offer of MRI/prostate biopsy, please do not hesitate to contact his Urology consultant direct and we can act accordingly.

Many thanks again for your kind feedback.

Kind regards

Paula
