"Salford PCT wont fund the drugs that could save my mother!"

About: Salford PCT

(as a relative),

My Mother has advanced renal cancer with secondary's on both lungs.

She had a radical nephrectomy in september last year, and was given the immunotherapy treatment Interferon. Sadly this was unsuccessful and the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. Her consultant recommended the drug Sutent and advised her to write to the Salford PCT to request the funding for the sutent. The consultant and the GP both wrote letters of support to the PCT. The PCT refused to fund this treatment and so my Mother appealed against their decision. The process review panel also refused to fund this treatment. It's been 13 weeks that my Mother has been without treatment for the kidney cancer and It's a disgrace.

If she lived a few miles away in warrington or merseyside, the chances are she would already be on the sutent treatment by now, but because she lives in salford she has been told she can't have it. It seems salford doesn't have an NHS anymore and I'd like to know when did this happen and why wasn't anyone told. I'd also like to know what has happened to all the money my Mother has paid in Taxes and Insurance over the years.
