"I'm just so tired and weary..."

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My GP asked me would I be prepared to attend A& E today as I have been suffering from pain in my chest and difficulty swallowing for a long time now, it's just got so bad now I struggle to eat due to the pain. Because I can't eat I've lost a lot of weight recently and just feel so tired and weary even sitting here at the minute. I was told there would be a 4 hour delay so this gave me time to pack an overnight bag. I was initially waiting 2 hours by the door in a wheelchair and have been moved to this bed to wait ever since then. I am content but just so tired I wish I could go home and sleep. I have no energy from not eating so just feeling a little low at the minute. I was told there was only one person in front of me but that was hours ago and I can't seem to catch anybody elses eye to ask them what is happening. I do wish I could be seen soon so I can get home to rest. I was able to manage a small amount of soup and yoghurt which was quite nice, It was lovely of the lady to bring me this. Everyone is doing their best but I just wish I knew how long it would be. I haven't seen a doctor yet but all the nursing staff have been great. A& E is very clean which is great. A lady even brought me a pillow and blanket without asking and this was wonderful to keep me warm, it's the small things that mean the most.

Thank you for your kind words in relation to our staff. Unfortunately it can be difficult to predict the exact time when people attend A&E will be seen by the Doctor the traige nurse will give an estimate of the waiting time, unfortunately patients can attend with a higher acuity, so it is not always possible to give an exact number of the patients to be seen in front of you. We are glad that staff looked after your nutrition and comfort needs, we hope you are recovering well.
