"My time on the ward has been hit and miss"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 1 South Medical

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My time on Ward 1 South has been hit and miss. I was frustrated about leaving the ward to grieve for a family members death anniversary but I have dealt with that now and was thankful for the nurses who came in and chatted to me, they really cheered me up. The food is alright but I am very restricted in what I can get. I am currently awaiting a camera test to be done and apparently this should have been done yesterday but I spoke to the doctor and this may not happen to the end of next week now. I currently have some fluid build up in my abdomen and it has been pushing on my lungs so it is quite uncomfortable to sit down and sleep. I was told by the Doctor if I noticed any veins on my abdomen to let the medical team know straight away as this was important, I told a staff member to tell the Doctor but I am not sure this information was passed on yet. The cleaning is good here and sometimes I spill juice on my room floor by accident so it is great how fast this can be cleaned. Also the HCA's are great for coming to wash, dry and change you fast too. Just one thing is that sometimes if you ask for milk or water you may not always get it and have to go get myself in the end which isn't always great for me as I struggle to walk and would be quite slow.

Good afternoon and thank you for providing us with this feedback. Please accept our sympathy on the anniversary of your family member's death, this must have been a very difficult time for you. It is lovely to read how the nurses came in and talked to you and how you felt that they really cheered you up. I am sorry to read that you are experiencing such discomfort at the moment. I would encourage you to speak to the ward staff or the ward sister if you have any concerns as I know they would not want to be struggling.

Thanks again for sharing your story

Best wishes
