My wife was diagnosed with multiple myeloma blood cancer last year. She had spinal cord compression due to the tumours on her vertebrae as well as 5 vertebral fractures. Since then she has bravely undergone chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and has had to deal with so much physical and mental pain. She's been making an excellent recovery, thankfully.
Recently she has been getting her childhood vaccinations as the transplant wiped out previous vaccines. The nurse at the Health Centre, had vaccines delivered to our home. We thought this was a bit strange. We've kept them for months until wife was able to get vaccinated according to the protocol she was sent home with after her stem cell transplant.
So 6 months after transplant we go in to start the vaccination process. This nurse immediately got defensive telling my wife that they are snowed under and don't have the time. Started going on about how a 10 minute slot isn't long enough to draw my wife's blood and that they wouldn't do it. One vaccine was expired they said. Was very curt with my wife and made her feel terrible as if all of this was her fault. Gave her 2 jabs and sent her on her way with blood running down her arm and elbow which frightened me as wife has low platelets and is at risk for infections.
This nurse's disrespectful demeanour and lack of empathy towards my wife was appalling. Imagine going through all of what my wife has been through, hobbling in on crutches because of the terrible cancer and being treated so very wrongly! I hope this nurse gets some mental healthy support or even stops working with the public as they acted truly awful to us and I hope they never treat anyone that way again.
