"I will never forget those ladies and the feeling of calm"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I delivered my son at Dr Grays hospital in Elgin. I had such a positive experience there, I arrived in a rush and called from the car because my waters had broken.

Was met at A&E by Ashley a student midwife and Sally. They were immediately calming to me and super professional, I went straight to a delivery room and was checked over etc. My son was born within about 30mins so all was very fast but I felt completely taken care of and at ease as much as is possible!

I was pretty sick afterwards and there was no rush to leave that room to go to the ward, they stayed with me then helped me to shower and eventually back onto the ward where I had my own wee room. I had been sick so missed the tea and toast so they brought me tea in that wee room and made sure me and my baby were both fine through the remainder of the night.

I was awake a while at about 4am and Ashley stayed and spoke to me, in the morning at the end of shift Sally popped in just to say that she was leaving and that the morning team were taking over, and one last check that we were both OK.

I cannot thank both if them enough for there patience and kindness in a really scary moment of my life, this is my third delivery but the speed of how fast things progressed at the end really scared me, they were both so reassuring the whole time.

The next morning Diane took over and she was so bubbly and lovely and had the nicest most caring manner, she popped in and out of my wee room making sure both me and my baby were doing fine and despite prob having a million things to do I never felt like she had anywhere else to be apart from with us.

She did the hearing test and the check overs before we could leave and she told me what she was doing before she did it and just generally letting me know what was happening.Again like the night before was offering t cups of tea etc which was super appreciated!

I have had such a positive experience with the delivery and after care from all the staff who were on the ward during that night and morning and honestly think that those ladies are absolute angels for the patience, care and attention they give to all the ladies and babies especially during covid times with the added pressure they must be facing. I cannot thank them enough for the care they gave to me and my son and wish there was a way to properly thank them, I understand they do this day in and day out but for me I will never forget those ladies and the feeling of calm that comes from there expertise and knowledge-there is absolutely no doubt that your in safe hands there.

I know in writing this I cannot properly explain my experience as it is more of a feeling rather than particular things which happened but if you can deliver in Elgin please please do, these ladies are amazing and will make you feel safe and empowered through your birth experience and afterwards. I popped in today with a box of scones for fly cup pieces as a little thank you, I hope that the message from this reaches them and that they are thanked by their bosses etc for the experience they have given me
