"Postnatal depression"

About: Mid-Ulster / Home Care Mid-Ulster Public Health Nursing / Health Visiting Service

(as a service user),

After my first baby I had postnatal depression. I felt like it is the end, I did not wanted to live anymore. I could do anything in house (clean, cook even take a bath), I stayied my room for whole day without tv music, nothing. My fiancee had to look after our baby and me aswell, he had to prepare food for us, bath us do everything. It was bad, I was thinking to hurt myself but then I get right medical help.

Home Treatment Team from Mid Ulster Hospital in Magherafelt, Holywell Hospital and my Health Visitor from Portglenone GP, Marian (she is great thanks), they helped me a lot.

Right now I feel much better, I can look after my baby and enjoy it, I can clean my house prepare meals for family. I can live once again.

Thank You very much for all who helped me in this hard times

Dear Aneta

My name is Geraldine Doherty and I work as a Lead Nurse for Public Health Nursing. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of postnatal depression following the birth of your baby and for acknowledging the role your Health Visitor Marian had in supporting you through this difficult time. I am glad to hear you are feeling better and have shared your positive feedback with Marian. It is lovely to hear when care is appreciated and acknowledged in this way.

Best wishes to you and your family

Geraldine
