Hello - I am sorry to hear that you felt upset and angry after your consultation at Shepton Mallet Minor Injury Unit, this is something that we would never wish to happen.

You are correct children can have high fever for many reasons and this includes Covid and tonsillitis and we do have to be cautious which is why you would have been advised to have a PCR test for your son. If you have time you could visit the Covid Government website which is very helpful.

I am not sure why you were told by the staff that they did not know why 111 had directed you to us as your son condition is exactly the type of condition that we are commissioned to see and I really apologies if you were given this impression.

Children's doctors are generally located in district general hospitals and usually require a another health care professional's referral. Patients with your sons symptoms ideally are seen in GP practices or community hospitals which are close to home and normally have a shorter waiting times and can also refer directly into pediatrics if needed.

Again I would like to apologies for any confusing information that you were given. I would be pleased to talk with you if you would like to call me on the number below if you would like to discuss the consultation or anything I have said in my reply.

Yours sincerely
