"The birth of my 3rd baby"

About: Maternity care / Labour Suite

(as the patient),

My 3rd baby was due in February by c-section. This was due to complications with my 1st baby. We had to go into hospital 2 days before at 9am for pre op bloods and a covid test. I drove to the hospital that morning stepped out the car after parking and started getting twinges. By the time I got to triage the pain was worse but bare able, they stuck me on a monitor and got my covid test done. We had to wait for a doctor to come up and see me. The doctor came in at 10. 15 am and asked if anyone had spoke to me about a normal vaginal birth? I just looked at him and said no no that’s not happening I’m booked for a section on Monday! He said I’ll check you and see how dilated you are, you’ve only been getting contractions for just over an hour so we probably won’t have to have that conversation but you need to be prepared to have it as baby’s are a law to themselves.

He checked and he said okI wasn’t expecting that, your 9cm dilated so we need to have that conversation do you want to have a section or Vaginal birth? I was in such a state of panic with a ton of what ifs running through my head, that that first thing that came out my mouth was f*** you! ! Never felt so guilty for speaking to a doctor like that! I started crying and was apologising but freaking out at the same time everything I had planned for was been completely taken out of my control, I just had to put my trust in the doctors and midwifes.

At 11. 22am 2 hrs and 22 mins after walking in the hospital, my baby girl popped into the world. Healthy and perfect. It was one of the most scariest things I’ve had to go through knowing the potential risks a vaginal birth could cause me but now looking back it was literally the best experience and could not have gone any better. The midwifes were amazing! The doctor was amazing! I was away with the fairy’s on gas and air at one point stroking the doctors hand when he was trying to put a cannula in thinking he was my husband and he just laughed it off with us when I realised.

What a funny and honest birth story!

I am so please you had such a positive experience, it sounds like baby number 3 had made the decision to come sooner rather than later.

I have been assured that the doctor involved has fully recovered from the hand stroking incident 😉.

Thank you so much for your feedback and huge congratulations on the eventful birth of baby number 3. We look forward to welcoming you with number 4 😉.
