"Fantastic care and attention "

About: Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust

I was having an unexpected major flare up of ulcerative colitis for 2 weeks (had been in remission 4yrs) and was advised by my Dr to go to A&E. On my arrival I was seen almost immediately by a Triage Nurse who recognised that I was dangerously dehydrated and was given a drip and intravenous steroids to try and calm things down. It was decided by various Doctors that I should be admitted so I could be closely monitored. After spending a night in an observation ward I was taken to a gastroenteritis ward. On my arrival I was seen by an IBD Consultant who clearly explained that it was in my interest to have the various scans and scope in order to assess the severity of the flare up. To my surprise these were carried out on the same day!!

The results came back confirming an acute to severe flare up. I stayed on both drips for a further 2 days which helped build my strength and reduce the number of loo visits massively. I was discharged 3 days later. This was actually the first time I have ever stayed in a hospital 58yrs so I really didn't know what to expect especially during a Pandemic, however from my experience I was truly amazed at the level of care and attention I received. Everyone from the Cleaners to the Consultants were so attentive, friendly and helpful. I cannot speak any higher of my experience. Thank you so much. The NHS is without doubt our "National Treasure "
