"Pain clinic - patient in agony."

About: University Hospital Ayr / Pain management

(as a carer),

My partner who I am a carer for, is in agony with chronic pain. The medication which has been prescribed for the doctor is not working and they are refusing to speak to him until later in the year because he missed an appointment last year.

This feels like he is being punished by the doctor because of a genuine mistake that was explained at the time.  We both suffer from mental health problems and got mixed up with dates. My partner feels he cannot cope with the pain anymore and the doctor has said they won’t change his medication.

It seems as if we are being made to feel like we are pestering the pain doctor. We are repeatedly being told that the pain clinic prefers using alternative approaches to dealing with pain such as physio and psychology. He has not been offered psychology and the pain physio suspended appointments because he is on too much pain. So he has not other option but to stay on medication.
