"Amazing support in our difficult days"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Department of Medicine for Elderly Borders General Hospital / General Medicine Borders General Hospital / Stroke Unit

(as a relative),

Our family are forever indebted to the staff of A & E, Ward 6, Ward 12, the Borders Stroke Unit and the Chaplaincy Centre for the superb level of service and support our parents and our family have received in the last couple of years and in particular in the last month.

Our mother was admitted to the Stroke Unit from Ward 6 at the same time as our father was approaching end of life in Ward 12.  As a family we cannot find the words to adequately thank everyone who went over and above the call of duty to ensure that our parents were able to spend time together in the last days of our father's life and we will always remember the remarkable care and attention given to our father to ensure his final days were as comfortable as possible.

The communication between Wards 6, 12 and the Stroke Unit was remarkable and the care, attention and respect given to our mother to help her through her grief has been way above the call of duty.  So many staff were involved and each and every individual has our heartfelt thanks.

We have seen difficult days and we have seen remarkable kindness and respect and this gives us strength as a family.  Thank you all.

Thankyou for taking the time to use Care Opinion. Can I start by saying how sorry I am on the recent death of your father, a very difficult time for you all. It is gratifying to know that the care shown to your family during such difficult times was of such a high standard. We strive daily to achieve this, often in challenging circumstances. I will pass on your kind comments to all the staff in ED. I do hope your mum is recovering well. Thanks again for taking the time to give such lovely feedback during such a sad time for your family. My best wishes,

Lesley Anderson, Senior Charge Nurse, Emergency Dept

Dear yover1963,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feed back to us at such a difficult time for you and your family. I'm so sorry about your father's death.

The last 15 months have been an exceptionally difficult time for everyone, with people in the last days of their lives being comforted by healthcare professionals instead of the people they love and who love them. As healthcare staff we have endeavoured to do the very best that we could in these situations but I am so glad to hear that we managed to support your father in having the most important people beside him, at the end of his life.

At a time where healthcare professionals are very tired, it is stories like yours that help to sustain us and remind us of the impact that we have on those around us. Thank you once again for taking the time to tell us your story - I will ensure that we let the staff in the areas mentioned know your thoughts as a family.

Best wishes,

Lynn
