About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department

(as a service user),

I attended Altnagelvin A&E in early May as advised by the early pregnancy unit following sudden onset bleeding and abdominal and back pain at 6 weeks gestation.

The entire care provided to me was by Dr Banjeree. I had a cannula inserted, I had poor access and he was sure to listen to my concerns and take my direction when I knew some veins always collapsed when it was attempted to obtain blood. When my HCG was taking a while to come back Dr Banjeree came to the waiting area to apologise to me for the delay.

My HCG came back lowered and Dr Banjeree delivered the news to me that I was miscarriage. He delivered the news in such a compassionate manner, this I will never forget. He ensured I had continuity within the a&e dept, recognised this was upsetting news, delivered the news with such compassion and walked me to the door of the department when I was leaving.

I am Colleen Hamilton, the ED department Manager. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, following, what was a very difficult attendance for you to our emergency department.

Even after receiving such sad news I am so grateful that your experience in ED was one of compassion and care provided by Dr Banerjee and I have passed on your feedback to him.

Our aim as, a team, is provide all our patient with care dignity and compassion and it is heart warming to hear that this has been delivered to you at a difficult moment.
