"A much happier person"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I became depressed and had low self esteem after experiencing difficulties at work. I was not sleeping and had flashbacks to the trauma of my Mums death some 5 years earlier. I was signed off sick from my job and my GP referred me to Inclusion Thurrock where I had an assessment and CBT was suggested. After taking an on-line interactive course which helped me to understand therapy I was put on a waiting list for CBT. When the time came for my sessions I was treated for PTSD. There is no stigma having mental health issues and I can only say that it was very helpful indeed and it has made me a much happier and contented person who is able to manage their own mental health in a positive way. It empowered me to take life changing decisions and to accept some of the trauma I have experienced. It is intense and you have to have commitment to the therapy but please believe me it has helped me enormously and I am very grateful to my counsellor and Thurrock Inclusion

Dear Wozza1,

Thank you for sharing your experiences of CBT sessions with us. It certainly sounds like you had some really difficult experiences in the past, along with some re-living of those in the present and I am sorry to hear that. It sounds like although these experiences were very difficult at the time, they prompted you to seek the help you needed, so I am very glad to hear that you were able to get in touch with us for support with everything.

It is completely normal to find some things are more troubling than usual following experiences of traumatic events, that our beliefs about ourselves and the world around us have changed and make current problems even harder to deal with. CBT can help us change these beliefs and manage any traumatic experiences, which as you described empowers us to take control of these difficulties in the present. It's wonderful to see you were able to make some significant changes to your life as a result and I hope these will be beneficial for you in the future.

As you've mentioned, therapy is certainly a commitment but through your hard work it seems as though things are really improving for you. I wish you all the best in maintaining this work for the future and seeing these benefits in the long-term as well!

Take care & kind regards,

Adam
