"They cared for our mum and supported our family"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Acute Stroke Unit

(as a relative),

My 99 year old mum Cathie was admitted to ward 33, Ninewells Hospital in February following a CVA (stroke). Sadly, decision to commence end of life care plan was made and she died a week later.

As a family we will be forever grateful for the wonderful care mum received. Despite being a very busy unit coupled with managing Covid regulations, the team were consistently calm, available and readily reassuring to us, whether visiting or phoning.

Nothing was any trouble to meet mum's needs, whether physical, emotional or spiritual and as a family, they gave us so much confidence that we had entrusted her care to such a highly professional team. From the outset and before we were able to visit, medical staff telephoned my brother and I on more than 1 occasion, both to glean further information and to keep us informed of mum's current condition and care.

I hope the team realise the exceptional skills they possess and I want them to know that these contributed so positively in what was a devastating experience for us.

Dear Relative

Firstly, may I offer you my condolences on the passing of your mother. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback, at what must be a very sad and devastating time for you and your family.

I am very pleased that you felt the team on Ward 33 were calm and professional and in particular that they looked after your mother and your family in such a holistic way. It has been very difficult during COVID and restrictions on visiting to ensure that loved ones are kept up to date and provided with this reassurance and I am pleased to hear that you are happy with the level of communication that was put in place around your mother's care and treatment.

We are very proud of the Acute Stroke team who work on Ward 33 and it will be so lovely for them to receive your positive feedback. I will ensure this is shared with the team and would like to thank you again for taking the time to share your experience with us.

With very best wishes
