"Quick in and out"

About: NHS Sheffield CCG / Covid-19 vaccination programme

(as a service user),

I booked a vaccination at the Octagon Centre. Everyone from the staff on the doorstep gave clear, reassuring instructions and directions. Its a little bit of a warren in the building so they had loads of clear signage. I got there a little before my time and went straight in, went smoothly.

I am a hot and sweaty person and several caring members of staff checked that I was ok, that I wasn't showing symptoms of anything else, that it wasn't nervous sweat. They were all on hand, ready with support should I need it.

When I was waiting until I was allowed to leave, one of the organising nurses gave a smile and a joke and we had some good craic talking about what it was like organising it and standing on your feet the whole day directing people. She was good humoured and fun, and for her sake as well as mine I was very glad the room has air conditioning!

One slight source of confusion was when I got the jab, the clinician wrote down a time on a piece of paper and handed it to me saying I should leave by this time. I asked if they meant leave by 15:45 or did they mean I should  wait until after 15:45? The clinician firmly repeated  by saying I should leave by 15:45.

Of course, common sense told me its obviously after, so I didn't really need to ask the question in the first place, but under the bright lights and with all the official looking people everywhere, I wanted to follow all instructions to the letter. There was no rudeness or malice or anything, it was completely polite, just a little confusing. I just think if this clinician were to give advice about a less straightforward medicine, clear explanations would probably be useful.

Anyway everyone was lovely, including the clinician, the whole thing took maybe 20 minutes, and 15 of those were sitting in a cool spacious room having a nice chat. Quick in and out, I left less than 10 minutes after my appointment was due to start!
