"Appointment experience"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital

(as a service user),

I attended the hospital today for an MRI appointment had previously tried at my local hospital however was unable to do it so was referred to the GJH for the bariatric MRI upon attendance the receptionist was very welcoming and the HCA was also lovely and very professional.

However, my experience after that changed. I felt very embarrassed about the way I was treated which left me quite upset.

I know I’m a larger lady and that’s on me but to be treated like a second class human being caught staff making faces trying to position me which made me feel very embarrassed for a caring profession not so caring.

I just wanted to share my experience as I feel when people get treated like this they hold back from seeking medical treatment. I know it’s really put me off. I don’t think I would go back. x

Dear Lisa2103

I am extremely saddened to read of your experience with us, this is not what we would expect for any of our patients. This manner and behaviour does not reflect our hospital values and I am very sorry that you experienced this. Our Diagnostics Service Manager would be very keen to discuss this with you, to allow her to speak to the staff involved.

I would be pleased if you could contact me on 0141 951 5951 or feedback@gjnh.scot.nhs.uk

Regards

Paula

Update posted by Lisa2103 (a service user)

I appreciate your response. Thank you for acknowledging my experience.

I myself work in the hospital and all I wanted was to be treated the way I treat any of my patients, care respect and dignity.

The fact that I’m a larger woman, I felt embarrassed and disrespected. I was exposed at the back, my legs and bottom were out in the open.

I accept the response noted above. I don’t wish to speak to the staff involved but just wanted to share my experience.

Dear Lisa 2103,

Thank you for your reply. I cannot express enough my apologises for your experience. No patient should ever be made feel the way you were. I will note to our Diagnostics Service Manager that you do not wish to speak with her, however she will progress this internally with the MRI team, to ensure that we learn form this.

Again, please accept my sincere apologises.

Regards
paula
