I was in two minds if I should even let anyone know what actually happened. I was a victim of domestic abuse. I went to the hospital with a suspected brain injury and chest pains. I was too embarrassed to go into detail with the pre-assessment nurse in Urgent Care unit and all I said was that I was involved in a fight. This woman after checking my record and seeing, that I have been in the hospital with a similar matter just a couple of months before that, decided to judgmentally ask me why I'm getting myself in fights all the time and that I should stop!
They didn't even try to apply any form of Adult Safeguarding, they said it in a way where all staff around them and some patients in a waiting area heard them whilst shaking their head. I am suffering with depression and I can't even find the words to explain how that made me feel. They were my first point of contact that day and I was ready to just leave without getting any help after our interaction. I'm in a safe place now in my life but I hope someone takes this on board and does something about it before another vulnerable person experiences it. At the same time I have to say that everyone in Emergency Department on the other hand was the most helpful, all of the nurses in there and doctors were so warm, professional and just simply amazing. To all of you I say thank you!
