Hopewood really helped me but I think that this is only because they actually gave me the opportunity to turn things around rather than just shipping me off to picu. I think that sometimes the safety in the ward is a real concern ie the readiness of sharp and items to misuse. I think this seriously needs reviewing and I can compare this to other wards I have been on and I can certainly say that things need to change on Phoenix. I think the nursing team are a mix of personalities it means you won’t get on with some of them at all but the nursing team are really great at what they do and actually make time to listen to you when you need them something which in other services I have felt isn’t the done thing. I think they sometimes need to keep people for longer rather than just discharging them to stop he cycle of readmissions. I think that the amount of staff on shift is sometimes lacking and they need to employ more regular staff to improve the quality of care as well as to make patients feel more settled and establish a good therapeutic relationship with the staff members something which I personally feel is vital in order to recover. The locks on the main door also need changing. The staff really took the time to understand my background and understand me as an individual rather than just a number on a piece of paper. I think that there also needs to be more psychology input as there isn’t currently anyone in post. Phoenix really helped me and I can’t thank some of the staff enough.
