"My Day Surgery experience today"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Day Surgery

(as a service user),

I attended Day Surgery today for a colonoscopy - not a procedure that I relished however the team I met today put me at my ease and made an invasive procedure as dignified as it could be. From the admin staff, nurse Lynn who admitted me and Dr MacDonald, Fiona and Dot the nurses, I owe you a big thank you. It was over so quickly thankfully. I was looked after by nurse Sharon after the procedure and every staff member acted with so much care and compassion, my nerves were allayed. I have had no ill effects.

Thank you to the entire team.

One little bit of constructive feedback - . I was given conflicting advice with the bowel prep. The Moviprep leaflet gives conflicting information to the NHS Lanarkshire leaflet by informing the person to have a light lunch the day before whereas the NHS L leaflet advises 24 hours before the person can only have clear fluids - no food. There is a lot to take in pre procedure and I think this confusion should be rectified. I trust this will be looked at.

Thanks for everything

Dear emmemmcee,

I'm so pleased to hear that you had a positive experience when attending for your procedure. This is the standard that we strive to achieve for all people attending for investigations and procedures; we know how daunting it can be.

My colleagues will delighted to receive your praise recognising their professionalism and compassion which I will share with them today.

I apologise that the information provided was contradictory. Whilst we wouldn't remove the manufacturer's information, we would want people to prepare for their procedure by following the NHS Lanarkshire information. I'll ask my colleagues in Knowledge Services to review and if necessary update the information provided and specify which should be followed.

Kind regards

Rick

Dear emmemmcee

Thank you for making us aware of this issue. The Evidence Manager has advised that it has been added to the agenda of the endoscopy steering group who plan to review this leaflet in due course.

Kind regards.

Lesley
