"Ophthalmology"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I had been referred to WGH to get my eye checked as there is a lump on the lid. I have previous history of cancer and I am very concerned about it as it is not getting any better. On calling the referral management service to check how long waiting times are I am informed that in addition to the 6 weeks I have waited, I have to expect another 40-50weeks!

Absolutely ridiculous waiting times! If my concerns are correct regarding my eye, early diagnosis and treatment are vital to recover. What chance do I have if this is how long I have to wait to meet a professional!

Dear Paulah,

All referrals to services are vetted and allocated a clinical priority to be allocated an appointment. Ophthalmology like other services are working longer days as well as running Saturday and Sunday outpatient clinics in an attempt to meet the current and increasing demand as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you'd like to contact my colleagues @ patientaffairs.hairmyres@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk they'll be able to review your particular case and provide you with an update.

Kind regards

Rick
