Once again my mum found herself in hospital this time ward 18, all staff were absolutely wonderful, they were obviously short staffed but I have to say none showed the stress of it all in particular Charge nurse Amanda who carefully explained phosphate IV to me for my mum also to Staff nurse Gillian who in my view that girl ain’t got feet she’s got wheels -amazing nurse, called me on several occasions to update me and made me feel part of my mums care, now that’s what I call ‘inclusion’ from two dedicated professionals. My heartfelt thanks to them both and I trust my comments will be placed on their staff records. Their was one other lovely lady a HCSW I didn’t get her name who treated my mum with much understanding and empathy in personal care issues. My mum who was discharged today is like a little lady who has her confidence to walk again and is now, how she was prior to her stroke. Thank you to all on the ward Drs, nurses, HCSW’s, catering and other. I believe the Snr Charge nurse is Colette, she has built a fabulous team, I didn’t meet her but staff sung her praises. I trust all of the ward staff and patients enjoyed their cornettos and ice lollies as it was sweltering, which I have to say the uniform is not conducive to that working environment in hotter months. We are all mostly guilty of not expressing our’ thanks’ and acknowledging people for their work as we believe ‘that’s their job’! But are quick to complain. It takes very very special people to work in a clinical environment and think on their feet as rapidly as they do, I urge any of you reading this to take a moment and just say ‘thank you’ And it might just put a wee smile on the faces of the people looking after our ageing parents and relatives.
