"Ante natal care"

In every other consultation I have not had anything at all negative to say. Each sonographer HCA and the ST5 I saw last time were truly fantastic and I was so happy with my care. Today was the complete opposite experience thanks to one member of staff.

This being my first pregnancy, was a little concerned about recurrent soreness and swelling right at the top of my abdomen just under my chest. As soon as I met the consultant for the first and they asked how I was, I explained about this and how sometimes it appeared quite large and fluid filled. The reply was to laugh and tell me that it wasn't all baby, commenting on my weight. This was so offensive to me and I felt truly totally embarrassed especially with two other people in the room I knew nothing about.

The whole of the rest of the consultation I spent angry, not listening to the advice I was being given and quite frankly shocked at the unprofessional behaviour from a consultant. I will be requesting not to see this individual again. Not only is my weight a sensitive issue for me but in the first greeting to be ridiculed is unacceptable from anyone. As an NHS nurse I am disgusted at this behaviour. This will be my only pregnancy due to my medical problems and I truly had met some great professionals. After today I dread going back.
