"Long term misdiagnosis"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Dermatology

(as a service user),

After attending a long awaited Dr's appointment with Dermatology at Grantham District Hospital, once again I was left saddened. I have long felt my main skin condition is a systemic fungal infection, which they maintain is psoriasis. I went armed with all the fact of my opinion and how some fungal over the counter products had tremendously helped. I was shot down in flames and informed they knew how to do their job. I was refused a skin scrape and a swab, which I wrote ahead and asked for. The main medication, containing fungal properties that has cleared the skin in the past, the Dr refused to prescribe and told me to see my GP advising I go on a very serious drug called methotrexate.... I don't think so. Time to see the local herbal doctor.

Dear Ellie M

I am sorry hear that the service you received was less than satisfactory. Unfortunately, the Doctor can only diagnose and advise on the complaint as it presents at the time of examination as it can be dangerous to prescribe medication without the correct evidence. The advice to go back to your GP would be to ensure that any medication that they have advised be prescribed will be with the consent of your GP and also ensure that it can be reviewed on a regular basis which can be done at your GP practice.

However, if you would like to contact our PALS service we will be happy to investigate the matter further.
