"Colonoscopy"

About: Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Despite recording on my notes that I had experienced severe pain during a previous colonoscopy, I was given a sedative and the consultant proceeded with the colonoscopy which had to be terminated due to acute and severe pain whereby I felt my stomach was about to explode. I have had a number of these previously carried out by specialist nurses who seemed to have the level of pain relief spot on and managed to conduct a full investigation without too much difficulty. I was slightly perturbed by the consultant’s jovial pre procedure warning against whinging in the room during the procedure. This may have been an attempt to lighten the mood prior to my colonoscopy but has now left me feeling that this failed attempt is somehow my fault and, although I normally have a high pain threshold, this morning was totally unbearable.

Dear Eckster,

I am really sorry that your experience within the Day Intervention Unit was not a positive one. I would be very keen to discuss your experience with you further in a hope to learn more from it. I am working all next week and would appreciate it you phoned me on extension 29688.

Thank you
