I care for my mother with Dementia and try to always do what I think she would want I don’t always know what is right and have no idea if she is happy or not. I visited the medical physics department at Western General Hospital Edinburgh to take her for a bone density scan. Knowing my mums limitations and the help she requires I offered to get her onto the table and position her ready for the scan I also asked the radiographer to call me when she was done to allow me to help her back off the table. I do this on a daily basis in regards to moving and handling of my mother.
As I was settling my mum in her wheelchair the radiographer placed her hand on my shoulder and said "You are very good to your mum". The genuine kindness this member of staff showed me in that small gesture was huge to me, it confirmed what I do everyday matters, even though my mum is unaware. Thank you Janice, you made my day.
