"Positive experience of maternity care at Oban and RAH"

About: Lorn & Islands Hospital / Maternity care Lorn & Islands Hospital / Physio Maternity care (Ward 31) / Labour suite maternity

(as the patient),

Our baby arrived 3 weeks ago and although she was delivered at the RAH we received support before and after from the Oban Maternity Unit. During pregnancy all of the staff at OMU were super helpful and supportive.   I felt I could phone whenever I was unsure about something. I was also referred to a physio due to hip pain and seeing Iona really made a difference. Again very supportive and friendly.

I had a long labour and so met a lot of the staff in various units at RAH! I wasn't able to follow my hypnobirthing plan and my husband wasn't allowed to stay for early labour due to COVID which I found very upsetting. Overall my experience of the staff was very positive, especially those in theatre who were exceptionally professional while managing to put my husband and I at ease.

There was a lovely nurse who looked after us immediately after the birth, who was quite young but had the calming competence of someone who had been doing it 30 years! I was on the post-natal ward for 3 days.

My advice would be - don't be afraid to buzz for someone to answer any questions you have.   Apparently it was particularly busy when I was in and so once my curtain was closed I felt unsure what was going on and didn't know what to do. Anytime I called on someone though they were friendly and patient.

When we returned home I had a huge amount of support from all the midwives at Oban. Plenty of phone calls, home visits and time to talk about how we were all doing physically and emotionally. Kirsty, Ruth and Elaine were particularly brilliant. I also had input from my GP, Health Visitor and the district nurse. All of whom were great.

Dear guidekc43

Congratulations on the recent birth of your baby!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your positive experience of care from a range of professions in the Oban area and at the RAH. We really appreciate receiving feedback.

So good to read that you found the staff in Oban to be friendly, helpful and supportive. I will make sure that staff (who will be delighted) are made aware of your positive comments.

Wishing you and your family the very best for the future.

Kind regards

Fiona Campbell

Dear guidekc43

Many congratulations on the birth of your daughter and for taking the time to provide such nice feedback at such a busy family time.

It has been a very difficult time for women and their families during the current pandemic with the visiting restrictions but lets hope things continue to improve and we can return to full patient centred visiting.

I will ensure your post is shared with the staff at RAH and like the wonderful staff you encountered at Oban, they will be delighted to receive this.

Wishing you and your family all the best for the future.

Best Wishes

Evelyn
