"Follow-up scan at Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU)"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

Following my previous inpatient admission (see my other story), a follow-up scan was arranged for one week later. As with before, my partner could come with me but due to COVID-19 protocol had to wait outside the unit while I was in the waiting room - I was fine with this and so glad he could come with me in the actual scan.

The scan was done by a sonographer called Alex - she was very gentle and softly spoken, and explained that during the scan she would be silent while measurements and images were taken. She informed us of the outcome and explained and showed us what was seen on the scan.

Following this, we had another nurse (Esther) take us to a room to discuss this further. Esther was absolutely fantastic and a real asset to the team: she was very sympathetic and communicated well with about what the scan showed and what was required next. We had lots of questions, and she took the time to answer these - and leaving the room to find out the information as necessary. She provided the human touch needed to communicate and support patients experiencing miscarriages.
