"Coil insertion"

About: Sexual Health Services - North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (Open Clinic)

(as a service user),

I was not briefed about how the procedure would be. I was not given information about how the coil works and which type of coil was being inserted. Its only when the doctor was about to insert when they said they would try to insert either the 10 or 5year one, whichever fits. And I was thinking was not not my choice to choose either a 10yr or 5year one. The procedure was painful as well which I was not told about before the procedure started. And the doctor said its" upto you I can't stop if you want"..I almost changed my mind mid the procedure. On top of that the doctor doubted me when I said I had my pregnancy test this morning and I had test done for STI. I had a very bad experience. I hope I won't have to attend that clinic again

Dear limanc54

I would firstly like to apologise on behalf of the team; our patients should always be given full and detailed information and an explanation of any procedure. Secondly I would like to thank you for posting such an honest review it took a lot of courage and I am grateful for the feedback. I would like to discuss the concerns you raised so that we can learn from them as a service and make any necessary changes to ensure that no one else has the experience you have had.

If you feel able to please contact me, Julia Barraclough, Service Manager on: 07921 948289 or email: JuliaC.barraclough@mpft.nhs.uk.
