"Medication not returned and still waiting for results"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as the patient),

I was in on February this year to have a hysteroscopy procedure firstly staff nurses were fantastic in the day surgery area. After the procedure I was kept in overnight and went to ward 13 again most of the nurses were fantastic. During my procedure biopsy’s were taken and a smear test performed etc.

Ok so back to ward 13 I was very sleepy and at one point a nurse had come in the room and asked if I had my own medicine with me I said yes in my bag she asked if she could go in and take it to show doctor I said of course so she did and said she would bring back later that’s fine I said. It was much later she cam in the room I had my back turned as I was trying to sleep she said she was putting my medication back in my bag I said that’s fine thank you.

The next day I left the hospital and got home to empty my bag and yip you guessed it no medication. I called the ward told the nurse thought the medication belonged to the hospital and took them out my bag. But they have my name on them etc still not sure what was going on there. Few weeks after got all clear biopsy results, fantastic, they are fine but no smear results I have called the doctors secretary lots of times and left message still nothing so I came here to leave this message in the hope someone takes notice I’m also going to be contacting my local mp for help this is just awful and not how I expect to be treated.

Dear BeKindAlways84

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us about your recent experience at University Hospital Wishaw. Whilst I am pleased to hear you were very pleased with the care you received during your procedure, I am disappointed you had then experienced a more negative response in relation to your medications.

I am sorry that there was some confusion in relation to your medication whilst in ward 13 and I apologise we were unable to resolve this when you called the ward.

I will raise this concern with the staff in ward 13 and ensure they are more vigilant when dealing with patients medications in the future.

With relation to your smear result, if you have had no response from your GP and have had no response from the secretary then I would suggest you contact our patient affairs department who will be able to assist you further. They can be contacted on 01698 366558.

I hope this response has been helpful and I will be more than happy to speak to you if you have any further concerns.

Kind regards

Kim Brown
