I was referred to the service to get help with my physical fitness because it was having a negative effect on my mental health. I am disabled and chronically ill and I wasn't sure if they'd be able to help me.
I attended my assessment appointment right before shielding started so I had to cancel my first proper appointment. I was delighted when they contacted me to say we could use the 'Near Me' video links to have remote appointments.
During lockdown I had regular video appointments with Steve Adamiak who talked me through different exercises I could try and different ways of tracking my progress. This proved to be even more important than I'd been expecting as I faced a series of new health challenges, each one of which destroyed all the progress I'd made and forced us to restart.
I now have a bunch of tools to track changes in my health and to keep me focused on my fitness goals. I really believe that without Steve's help I would probably now be mostly bedbound. I now have hope that as things open up post lockdown I'll be able to get out of the house and back into the world.
