"3 week wait for routine phone consultation"

About: Old Farm Surgery

I completed an E consult and received a email from a doctor who was still unsure of my symptoms so asked me to contact the surgery, I did, was then told that the wait for a telephone consultation was more than 3 weeks. Thanks but no thanks. Goodbye.

Dear Mr Incredulously Disgruntled.

Demand on the NHS continues to be very high so we need to prioritise the care we give depending on the information we have. Given that you were offered a phone call in 3-weeks, your problem would have been determined not to be an urgent one, and one that could safely wait for 3 weeks.

The e-consult instructions would have made it very clear to you that if your problem was urgent that you should contact the practice by telephone. E-consult is not appropriate for people who need urgent attention. If symptoms worsen or patients they feel they have a situation that needs dealing with more urgently, then we would hope the patient would phone us & speak to our helpful receptionists as we always make time each day to assess urgent cases.

If you wish us to look further into your specific case then please contact us and let us know who you are

We would also take this opportunity to remind you and the public that our staff are currently seconded to the NHS covid vaccination centres to provide you and the population with the vaccine. We have not taken on extra staff for this purpose, but our nurses and doctors are having to take time out of our normal general practice work to provide the covid vaccination to our community.
