"Postponed dental surgery"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Dental

(as a relative),

My partner was referred to Monklands Dental dept in 2015. They carried out various tests and scheduled his surgery for Jan 2016. The day before, they cancelled the operation as they needed to carry out more tests. He was back and forth to Glasgow Royal and Monklands. We were then told he was on the waiting list. 2019, I came home to my partner in tears as he was in so much pain. He never complains but had called the dental depot to see what was happening. He was told abruptly by the secretary, they had no record of his test results and they would need redone. I immediately called and spoke to the secretary.   Her attitude was appalling. I immediately phoned the complaints manager. She has been the only one, who has listened to the issues, we have faced. Then lock down started. Today, May 2021 we received a letter stating there is a big backlog and they are not sure when they can schedule the surgery. We are more than aware of the problems the pandemic have caused the NHS etc....however it has been six years, since my partner was initially referred to Monklands Dept. To say I am absolutely disgusted is an understatement.

Dear jzig761

I am sorry to read of your concern at the length of time your partner has been waiting on Dental Surgery. The pandemic has impacted on our waiting times and ability to provide a service but from what you have said above your partner has been waiting much longer than just the last 12 months.

Can I ask that you email Frances Queen, Lead Nurse for the OMFS and Orthodontic Service with details of your partner and a contact number and she will be able to look into this for you both.

Her email address is frances.queen@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Kind Regards

Lynn McTavish
