"Communication"

About: Sexual Health Services - South Staffordshire (Open Clinic)

(as a service user),

When I was at the appointment the nurse asked me to get on the bed; I asked what happens next to which they just replied just sit on the bed and we'll sort it out; which made me feel really manipulated because I'm a human, and if you're gonna stick something down my penis I should at least be informed about it before hand. I know that is for my future health and it's important, and it would of course been okay But they took away that decision away. They held back the information until I was exposed (trousers down) and at my most vulnerable. That's not the right time to explain the procedure. A better time would of been when I asked before what was going to happen.

They withheld the information and didn't allow me to make my own decision.

That wasn't right

And as a side note and not to distract from my main point but on my 2 visits the nurses were quite apathetic. Not a real problem and I understand they must see 100s of people a week and can't care about everyone but I didn't feel listened to. in short bedside manner could be improved but I would not of mentioned bedside manner if the first incident had not happened and would not of filled in this form so make of that what you will.

Thanks

I would firstly like to apologise on behalf of the team, no one that attends our service should ever be made to feel the way that you did. Secondly I would like to thank you for posting such an honest review; it took a lot of courage and I am grateful for the feedback. I would like to inform you that all staff have been reminded about explaining what is going to happen and when the most appropriate time is to do this.

If you would like to discuss this further please email me on natalie.mason@mpft.nhs.uk
