"A and e - a covid safe waiting room?"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

I visited the A and E department last night. I left before treatment as i felt totally unsafe in the waiting area / triage area for urgent treatment. The room was totally rammed with people, most but not all were wearing masks and some who were wearing masks had them under their chins. Absolutely no chance of any social distancing, all the chairs were sat on, no air. The staff were professional but I felt so anxious about the environment I left. It must be difficult to balance the volume of people using A & E whilst being covid safe/ compliant. I would suggest last night the Trust failed to balance the two. Not a great experience. Wouldn't want to go back in a hurry. I don't want to put anybody off, if you need urgent care do go just be prepared and take your own hand sanitizer so you can regularly use whilst waiting.

We appreciate your feedback.

Our teams work very hard to give a good experience in all departments so we apologise for how you felt when visiting our very busy A&E. This department can be very challenging at times with the volume of patients that come through so we appreciate your feedback. Your comments will be sent to the team to share in their meetings for improvement and monitoring.

Kind regards

The Patient Experience Team
